SILO Structure
SILO structure is an information architecture approach that organizes a site into tightly themed sections (silos), with internal links staying primarily within each silo.
Silos concentrate topical authority on individual themes. Each silo behaves almost like a mini-site, with its own pillar, cluster pages, and tight internal linking.
Why SILO Structure matters
Strict silos are less common today than hybrid topic-cluster models, but the underlying principle — concentrate authority on a topic — still drives modern internal linking strategy.
How SILO Structure works in practice
Use silos or clusters to organize navigation, URLs, breadcrumbs, and internal linking. Avoid arbitrary cross-linking that dilutes the topical focus of each section.
